Donovan realizing what was wrong with her, thrust a bucket under her head while she threw up several time. Even more embarrassed, she tried to climb back under the covers when it was all over, but Donovan stopped her.

“You need to get some of those clothes off, it’s very hot in here and that can be just as bad.” He said, helping her to her feet and beginning to remove her outer layers. It was then that she realized that Donovan was dressed only in his jeans and socks and that it was very hot in the room.

Once he’d removed all but her lacy thermals, he put her back in the bed but with only one blanket this time. Handing her a glass of cool water, he joined her in the bed again, which he moved back from the fire before getting in.

She drank the entire glass of water, feeling her stomach beginning to settle. “Thank you. That’s better.”

“You missed all the fun. The sheriff dragged the mayor and Bruce down the mountain complaining the entire way.”

“Serves them right. Where were you all that time?” She asked, no longer able to hold the question in. “I thought you’d abandoned me.”

“That was the last thing on my mind, I want to talk about us, but first you need to hear about my trip to Switzerland.” He said, stroking her hair.

“You went to Switzerland without telling anyone?”

“I had to.” He said, taking a deep breath, then launching into an explanation.

By the time he was finished, Elizabeth was both relieved and mad. “So you just assumed that I wouldn’t believe you.” She said, clearly angry at him. “You didn’t even give me a chance.”

“I couldn’t take the risk that you wouldn’t believe me. I didn’t want to lose you and you’d made it clear that you still didn’t trust me completely. Would you have believed me?”

Elizabeth took a second to think about it, but then realized that she would have believed him. “I would have believed you. When you love someone...” She said, then realizing what she’d said, stopped talking.

“Did you just say that you love me?”

When she didn’t reply for a minute, he reached over and cupped her chin in his hand and turned her face to his. She had tears running down her cheeks and her heart was leaping around in her chest as he looked into her eyes.

“I’m glad to hear that, because I love you too. I want you to marry me, Elizabeth.” He said, kissing her gently on the lips.

When those words sunk in, all she could do was nod her head yes and let the tears run down her face. He took an edge of the blanket and dried her face, then kissed her again, but this time it wasn’t gentle. He was demanding and impatient, his tongue thrusting into her mouth, possessing her more completely than he ever had.

She responded immediately, her body on fire as he continued to kiss her, his hands roaming over her body. Any thought other than of Donovan fled from her mind as he stripped off her shirt and took one of her nipples into his mouth. He nipped and bit at the hard peak, again more demanding as he’d ever been.

After he’d teased each of her breasts for long tortuous minutes, he finally sat up and stripped her bottoms off and then his own clothes. Elizabeth wanted him to touch her more than she’d wanted anything in her life, her body was singing with pleasure just knowing that Donovan loved her. But that alone was not enough to satisfy her need.

Spreading her legs for him, she welcomed his touch by raising her hips when his finger found her clit. It was like a bolt of lightning when his finger slid across the swollen nib, every nerve in her body coming alive at once. She was making small noises in her throat as he worked his finger back and forth.

“I love it when you make that noise. It makes me want to bury myself inside you to hear the noises you make when I’m inside you.”

His words only made her want him more. “I want to feel you inside me.” She said, pulling him between her legs.

“Soon, but first I want to taste you.” He said, sliding down her body until his face was between her legs.

When his tongue found her clit and began to lick and tease it, she was beyond all thought, only conscious of the wonderful feeling his tongue was creating. In only minutes she was climbing to her peak, the pleasure increasing as his tongue continued to stroke her. When he plunged his tongue into her slick passage, then followed it with his finger, her pleasure spiraled then burst over her.

Donovan continued to lick and suck until her body finally relaxed, spent but still tense with desire. He slid up her body and took possession of her mouth, kissing her until she began to feel the need for him building in her loins. Whimpering with need, she thrust her hips against his hard penis, wanting him inside her.

“Please Donovan, I want you inside of me.”

“Your wish is my command.” He said, meeting her eyes as he buried himself deeply inside her.

Her muscles contracted around him, pulling him deeper, but he wanted to go even further. After a few long strokes, he slid her legs up to his shoulders, opening her to him in a way he never had before. Now instead of gentle strokes, he began to pound himself into her, deeper with each stroke. Elizabeth was pinned to the bed under his strong body, but felt only a thrill at the sheer power of the man she loved.

“I love you Donovan.” She said, not able to hold her tongue.

“I love you too, Beth.” He said, stopping for a moment to kiss her.

He’d been so powerful before, but with her words, he suddenly turned tender. Sliding one of her legs back down, he rolled her on her side still buried deep inside her. Now with one leg on his shoulder and the other flat on the bed, he was able to penetrate her as deeply as before, but his hands were free to explore.

As he continued to fill her, his strokes just as powerful as ever, his hands found her breasts and began to tease and massage them. With each stroke he was bringing her closer and closer to orgasm, her body tensing with the pure power of what she was feeling. Knowing how close she was, he slowed his rhythm, bring her back from the brink.

“Not yet, I’ve been dreaming about you for days.” He said, pulling out of her.

He flipped them over and Elizabeth climbed on top of him and guided him inside her with her hands. She sat up, wiggling her hips as his hard penis, slid deeply inside her. Donovan was moaning, barely able to control himself, he grabbed her hips and thrust into her over and over.

Elizabeth reached behind her and braced herself on the bed, one hand on either side of his legs. This position only opened her further and Donovan thrust into her deeper. Over and over he filled her, she could feel her pleasure building to the breaking point and refused to let Donovan slow down the rhythm.

She rode him, driving him closer and closer to the brink, his body tensing with the sheer pleasure of her body gripping him so tightly. Elizabeth was beyond thought, only wanting to drive Donovan to the heights he’d driven her to. Donovan could feel his resistance dwindling, his orgasm building to the point of no return.

He continued to thrust into her, meeting her hips each time they came down. Elizabeth was crying his name, so close she was practically begging him to take her to fulfillment. When his finger found her exposed clit and stroked her, the world exploded into a wave of pleasure as her orgasm rocked through her.

The feel of Elizabeth’s muscles clenching around his hard penis, sent him spiraling into his own pleasure. Elizabeth fell onto his chest and they clung to each other as their pleasure was released in a flood. Neither was capable of either thought or action for several minutes, as their breathing returned to normal.

After a few minutes, Donovan rolled Elizabeth gently off of him and got out of bed and added some more wood to the fire. On his way back to the bed, he dug something out of his pocket and brought it back to bed with him.

Gathering her up against him as he leaned against the head board. “I made some time for a little shopping when I was in Switzerland. I’d planned to do this differently.” He said, pulling a velvet box out.

“Oh, Donovan.” She said, getting teary eyed agai
n.

“Elizabeth Mathews, will you marry me? I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He said, opening the box to show her a huge diamond ring.

She was speechless for a moment, but knew the answer without even thinking. “Yes, I’ll marry you.” She said. Throwing herself into his arms.

“Daphne’s going to be happy. There’s nothing she likes more than a wedding, how does next summer sound?” He asked, playing with the ring he’d just put on her finger.

She was about to reply when her stomach gave a sudden leap and she knew what was sure to follow. Jumping out of bed, she made it to the bucket just in time. With little in her stomach it was over quickly, but Donovan was on his feet instantly, holding her hair back while she threw up.

Once they were back in bed, his concern was obvious. “I shouldn’t have let that happen. You’re still recovering from that time in the cold.”

The nausea had passed as it always did, but Elizabeth knew it might be back and soon. “It’s not the cold.” She said, looking up at him.

“Are you sick? Do you need to see a doctor? I thought you were fine.” He said, suddenly even more concerned.

“Well, I do need to see a doctor, but not because I’m sick. Do we have a good baby doctor in town?” She said, grinning at him.

“A baby doctor? I don’t know, you’d have to ask.....” He stopped mid-sentence. “You mean, a baby, for our baby?”

“We might want to plan the wedding a little sooner than next summer, unless you want to have it in the delivery room.” She said, suppressing the urge to laugh at the look on his face.

He wrapped her in a huge hug, then said. “I can’t believe it, the woman of my dreams and a baby. How did I get so lucky?”

“I don’t know, but I’m sure glad you did.” She said, looking into his eyes and seeing the love shining there. “I love you Donovan Terrell.” Tears running down her face.

“I love you too, Beth.” He said, tears running down his face as well.

The glistening diamond on Kate's finger kept her distracted. She could not stop staring at it. Although it was on the ring finger on her right hand and not her left, it still stood for something special.

Bruce was full of surprises and had gifted it to her at his own birthday party. He was like that, in love with making her happy. What woman would not want a man like that?

Twirling the jewel around her finger, it was a reminder of the commitment that she and Bruce made to one another. He promised to love her all of his days and she did as well. The love between them was not the issue.

Kate walked a tightrope between love and career on a daily basis. Being the CEO of her own fashion consulting company as well as a thriving boutique left her with little time for anything leisurely. During the past year of their relationship, Bruce had also picked up more work as well. He was a private consultant in the accounting sector, which took him on trips to meet with various clients.

When they first met, Bruce had not immediately won her over, although it did not take long. He had walked in to her boutique, looking like a deer frozen in headlights. Every time she thought about that moment, it made her chuckle. He was completely out of his element, which was why he came to her to get some help with finding the right apparel to wear for a fundraiser gala.

After his fitting, he'd invited her out to have a bite to eat. An innocent meal resulted in interesting conversation and allowed Kate to see that she had more in common with the cowboy boot, jeans, and ten gallon hat wearing gentleman than she bargained for.

Bruce's chosen sense of style was in stark contrast to the swanky city apartment that he owned. Kate wondered for a moment why a man that had such rugged looks would live in such a contemporary abode.

She soon found out that Bruce had once been an accountant at a Fortune 500 company and he had in fact done some consulting as well and that, along with his investments had made Bruce Stanger a billionaire.

To this day, Kate did not understand why he had gone back to consulting. It was not like he needed the money. And with him constantly complaining that she was working all of the time, it seemed odd that he would go back to the very thing that would take him away from home when he longed for a more conventional lifestyle.

The ring was not quite an engagement ring, more like a promise ring. Kate was not exactly ready for engagement and marriage and it was not because she had not found the right man. She found the perfect man in Bruce and it was obvious, just the thought of marriage itself was terrifying.

She held her promise ring and the promise he made to her dear. And she knew what the next step was. Bruce wanted to settle down and into a life with Kate and he was making it known more and more day by day. Soon, he would be proposing and she needed to prepare herself for it.

Real life was not like the movies. In the movies, the woman would gush over her proposal, crying and full of joy as she gladly accepted the proposal. Her beau would be on a bent knee in front of all of their family and friends and he would pull out a velvet box when everyone least expected and profess his undying love for his woman. When her proposal came, she was not sure if she would be overwhelmed with happiness or filled with anxiety about her future.

She knew that buying the promise ring was his way of allowing her baby steps. Bruce knew Kate well enough to know that asking her to marry him straight off would cause her to back away from him. She was happy that he gave her the promise ring. It let her know that they were going in the right direction. If she could just have a little time to adjust to the idea of forever, it would be even better.

"You've been up all morning twirling that ring around your finger. A penny for your thoughts."

Kate rolled over. "I had no idea that you were awake."

Wrapped in the blanket, she scooted her body a little closer to where he lay.

"One of the joys of my day. I like to lay here next to you and watch you sleep. You are so peaceful when you sleep."

Kate smiled, still groggy. "Are you trying to say that you prefer me quiet?"

Bruce gently stroked her hair on her forehead. Lightly planting kisses on her temples and then her cheek, "No, not at all."

  "Of course," she giggled.

Lying there, snuggled in his arms, it felt natural and as if she was where she was supposed to be. He held her tightly against his chest while running his hands through her hair. Early morning had become Kate's favorite time of day. It was the time when she and Bruce were alone and calm in their own space and it was just the peace she needed to start her day. She had grown to appreciate the way he brought
such serenity into her life.

"I want you to know that I saw the wedding magazines you have stashed in the bathroom."

Kate sat up quickly. At first, she thought about trying to make up a reason why she had the magazines, but decided against it.

"I just thought that it would make sense to start looking at dresses. I mean, just in case." She tried to shrug it off.

A gentle hand touched her shoulder. "It's okay. I did not know that you were ready to even discuss weddings and marriage and such."

"What woman do you know that doesn't like to nose dive into a world of wedding dresses and bridal mania? I don't know. You know how much I love fashion. I thought it would not hurt to take a look. That's all."

Bruce inched closer to her, wrapping his arms around her. "Why can't you just admit that you are this much closer to considering marriage?" He held his pointer finger and thumb pinched together.

"I think we are good taking our time."

Soft kisses trailed from her arm up toward her shoulders. "Take all of the time you need, my love. I'm here. I'm not going anywhere."

The touch of his lips against her skin was enough to make her want to stay there in bed with him all day.

"You are trying to distract me and make me stay here in bed with you all day."

Those steel blue eyes stared at her. "Is it working?" he asked with a sly grin.

Biting her bottom lip, she considered doing so. "Almost. I would love to, but I need to get to work at the boutique this afternoon."

Bruce crawled slowly over her body. "Are you sure that there is nothing I can do to convince you to stay with me just a little longer?"

It was damn near impossible to resist the man. His fingers left a trail of fire on her skin, making her want him more and more.

Kisses set her body off, and she could no longer resist his advances. He nuzzled his lips in the cradle of her neck, the very spot he knew would encourage her to give in to him. Her legs spread involuntarily and he knew just when she was ready to accept him.
